How FootballerRank evaluates players
Our rankings combine quantitative evidence with historical and tactical context. The weight of each factor changes according to the question being answered.
Core criteria
- Performance: quality and consistency of contribution.
- Peak ability: level reached during a player’s strongest period.
- Longevity: sustained excellence over time.
- Competition: strength of leagues, tournaments and opponents.
- Achievements: team trophies and individual recognition, interpreted in context.
- Influence: tactical, cultural or historical impact.
Comparing eras
Rules, schedules, tactics, equipment and statistical coverage change over time. We avoid treating raw totals from different eras as directly equivalent.
Updates and corrections
Rankings may change when stronger evidence or new performances justify a revision. See our Editorial Policy and Corrections Policy for details.
